Muu Muu
Muu Muu (b. 1955) is a celebrated Burmese painter known for capturing the quiet beauty of everyday life in Myanmar. Born in Wanbo Village, Monywa, in 1955, he graduated from the State School of Fine Arts in Mandalay in 1978. For decades, he has lived and worked in Pyin Oo Lwin, a scenic hill town that serves as his primary muse. The town's cool climate, traditional horse-drawn carts, colonial mansions, and diverse community provide endless inspiration for his art.

His work is distinguished by his choice of locally produced Shan paper made from mulberry pulp, which he values for its traditional texture and affordability. He works primarily in ink and acrylic, creating fluid compositions that blend contemporary expression with traditional materials. His subject matter is wide-ranging, but he has a particular affinity for horses, women, moons, birds, and frogs—symbols of grace and emotional flow.
Muu Muu has exhibited extensively both in Myanmar and internationally, including in the United States, France, Singapore, Malaysia, and Sweden. His solo exhibitions include Sketch & Think (Think Art Gallery, Yangon, 2015), Mysterious (Lokanat Gallery, Yangon, 2019), and Works of Covid Period (Café May Myo, Pyin Oo Lwin, 2020). In 2015, he donated 15% of proceeds from an exhibition to a local orphanage. He continues to work and exhibit, most recently with a solo show, “Memory Lane,” in January 2026.
