Lu Min

After his first solo exhibition, “Behind the Curtain,” he refined a personal style that often uses black and other dark tones, which he believes are “more distant, more attractive, more forceful, and more dominant” for creating compelling works. His compositions frequently employ stark contrasting colors to achieve a powerful, magical effect. He is drawn to the mystery and depth that dark palettes can evoke, believing they allow the viewer to engage more deeply with the emotions and narratives within his paintings.

U Lu Min has been a dedicated participant in the art world, exhibiting his work in numerous local and international group shows, including in Singapore (2001, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2008), Hong Kong (2003, 2004), and Thailand (2007, 2013). He was also a finalist in the prestigious Sovereign Annual Contemporary Asian Art Competition in Hong Kong. His work continues to be created in his studio, where he remains a full-time artist committed to his vision of painting.

As demonstrated in this masterwork, Lu Min’s approach relies heavily on the intense visual friction created by pairing solid obsidian backdrops with sudden, vibrant blocks of opposing color. His favored subject matter frequently centers on the intimate, private world of traditional Burmese performing artists captured away from the public gaze, weaving a literal and metaphorical curtain around their private existence. The luminous greens, electric blues, and intricate, geometric traditional textile patterns emerge dynamically out of the deep void, transforming color from a mere descriptor of physical reality into an active, vibrating symbol of cultural energy.

Throughout more than fifty years of full-time studio devotion, U Lu Min has achieved massive critical and institutional acclaim both within Myanmar and across international contemporary art circuits. His masterful manipulation of tonal contrast earned him widespread regional recognition when he was selected as a finalist at the prestigious Sovereign Annual Contemporary Asian Art Competition in Hong Kong. With extensive exhibition records across major Asian art hubs including Singapore, Hong Kong, and Thailand, his paintings remain highly sought after by serious archives and private collections for their spellbinding atmospheric execution and their highly unique, moody reinterpretation of classic Burmese iconography.

ဦးလူမင်းသည် စင်ကာပူ (၂၀၀၁၊ ၂၀၀၂၊ ၂၀၀၃၊ ၂၀၀၆၊ ၂၀၀၈)၊ ဟောင်ကောင် (၂၀၀၃၊ ၂၀၀၄) နှင့် ထိုင်း (၂၀၀၇၊ ၂၀၁၃) တို့တွင် ပြည်တွင်းပြည်ပ အုပ်စုလိုက်ပြပွဲများစွာ၌ ပါဝင်ခဲ့သည်။ ဟောင်ကောင်တွင် ကျင်းပသော ဂုဏ်သိက္ခာရှိသည့် Sovereign နှစ်ပတ်လည် ခေတ်ပြိုင်အာရှအနုပညာပြိုင်ပွဲတွင် ဆန်ခါတင်ပါဝင်ခဲ့သည်။ ယနေ့တိုင် ၎င်း၏ စတူဒီယိုတွင် အချိန်ပြည့် အနုပညာရှင်အဖြစ် ဆက်လက် ဖန်တီးနေဆဲဖြစ်သည်။
